چکیده

conclusions with regards to the predictive strength of the combination of gcs and iss, a predictive system for analyzing the clinical outcome may be provided. results 15496 traumatic patients referred to the hospital and traumatic deaths occurred in 289 patients. blunt trauma accounted for 286 (99%) of death and penetrating trauma for only 1%. our findings concerning the injury pattern, correlation between iss and time of death suggest that patients who die in the first hour after admission have the highest iss (average of 70.2); whereas those who die after 72 hours have the lowest iss. background numerous scoring systems have been proposed, and there is an inaccuracy in the anatomical and physiological differences between patients. injury severity scoring (iss) is a process by which the complexity of traumatic patients will be reduced to a single number. objectives the objective of this study was to determine whether iss scoring along with the sub-categories of the mechanism of injury, age and place where hospital traumatic deaths occurred are able to predict the clinical outcome. patients and methods the database registered accidents (dras) were gathered from trauma centre of kamyab hospital, mashhad, east of iran from march 2011 to april 2012. iss was used to define the major trauma.

Comparison of Revised Trauma Score, Injury Severity Score and Trauma and Injury Severity Score for mortality prediction in elderly trauma patients.

BACKGROUND Trauma is the fifth leading cause of death in patients 65 years and older. This study is a comparison of results of Revised Trauma Score (RTS), Injury Severity Score (ISS), and Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) in prediction of mortality in cases of geriatric trauma. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study of records of 352 elderly trauma patients who were admitted to Pour-S...

Prediction of mortality in pediatric trauma patients: new injury severity score outperforms injury severity score in the severely injured.

BACKGROUND The Injury Severity Score (ISS) is a widely accepted method of measuring severity of traumatic injury. A modification has been proposed--the New Injury Severity Score (NISS). This has been shown to predict mortality better in adult trauma patients, but it had no predictive benefit in pediatric patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether the NISS outperforms the ISS in a ...

The role of the New Trauma and Injury Severity Score (NTRISS) for survival prediction.

The objective of this study was to verify if replacing the Injury Severity Score (ISS) by the New Injury Severity Score (NISS) in the original Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) form would improve the survival rate estimation. This retrospective study was performed in a level I trauma center during one year. ROC curve was used to identify the best indicator (TRISS or NTRISS) for survival ...

New Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) adjustments for survival prediction

Background The objective of this study is to propose three new adjustments to the Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) equation and compare their performances with the original TRISS as well as this index with coefficients adjusted for the study population. Methods This multicenter, retrospective study evaluated trauma victims admitted to two hospitals in São Paulo-Brazil and San Diego-EU...

Evaluation of Probability of Survival Using Trauma and Injury Severity Score Method in Severe Neurotrauma Patients

OBJECTIVE Despite several limitations, the Trauma Injury Severity Score (TRISS) is normally used to evaluate trauma systems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the preventable trauma death rate using the TRISS method in severe trauma patients with traumatic brain injury using our emergency department data. METHODS The use of the TRISS formula has been suggested to consider definitively pre...

Should the New Injury Severity Score replace the Injury Severity Score in the Trauma and Injury Severity Score?

BACKGROUND This study was performed to compare the efficacies of Injury Severity Score (ISS) and New Injury Severity Score (NISS), and to investigate whether replacing ISS with NISS in Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) changes the predictive power for mortality. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 550 patients aged over 16 years seen in our center over a period of four years who had in...
